While Captain Comet, with the help of federal agents, brought the super-criminals back to Belle Reve Prison, the Cheetah was trying to break through to the former Mayflower of the Force of July back at the Meta-Human Rehabilitation Agency.

Debbi Domaine had tried again and again to reach the personality of Rachel Green once more, but she seemed forever lost in the aloof Blossom. The young woman from England had been changed not long ago from the spirited Mayflower into the pale-skinned, long blonde-haired plant elemental called Blossom by her evil father, Jason Woodrue, the Floronic Man. Now, as Blossom sat in a bed of roses, the Cheetah hoped, perhaps futilely, to reach what was left of Rachel. “Rach, can’t you be yourself again? This Blossom is not the girl I knew! You are too cold, too distant, too… weird!”

“Blossom does not understand,” she trilled, speaking of herself in the third person as usual. “Blossom is as she has ever been.”

“I just want Mayflower back,” said a sad Cheetah.

The strange, pale-skinned girl stared at Debbi for a while, then finally said, “Blossom understands. Now that Blossom has grown and absorbed nutrients and is fully in touch with the Green, I can return the seedling.”

She shuddered, and something very strange began to happen. As the Cheetah watched, Blossom began to expand, her skin opening on one side until she literally split into two as a naked but recognizable Rachel Green emerged.

Blossom then regrew her skin and said simply, “Blossom goes now to be one with the Green.” At that, she stood and walked outside, the grass and flowers around her growing and bending toward her as she left for parts unknown.

Debbi ran over and hugged the dazed Rachel. “So, Floronic Man must have just used you to — to grow that Blossom creature!” she said joyfully. “You’re Rachel Green again!”

“I’m Rachel, all right. And I’m starkers, too! How’d I get naked? Get me Mayflower costume, quick,” she said, blushing furiously. “Last thing I knew, me Dad — that rotter — had injected me with some drug!”

“I’ll tell you all about it later,” said a happy Cheetah. “All that matters is you’re fine now.”
